Who We Are

We're a not-for-profit organization that teaches the sport of fencing to newcomers and old hands, to kids of all ages. (Yes, that includes kids over 70!)  Come check out an introductory class to see if fencing is for you!

Our HISTORY

 

The Kansas City Fencing Center is dedicated to providing a rich and rewarding experience to the Kansas City metropolitan area through the sport of fencing. Kansas City Fencing Center (formerly Central Fencing Club) began in 1992 when three-time Olympic Champion Vladimir Nazlymov taught the first fencing classes at Central High School in Kansas City, Mo. Since then, KCFC fencers have made their mark by consistently being ranked among the best fencers in the United States.

Prior to leaving KCFC in 1999 to become Head Fencing Coach at Ohio State University, Coach Nazlymov selected his student Kelly Williams as his replacement as KCFC Head Coach. Coach Williams comes to us from North Carolina where she studied Physical Education at UNC. She is a 4-time US National Champion and member of two World Championship teams (taking the silver medal in ’98). Kelly has served on USA Fencing’s Board of Directors where she Chaired the Youth Development Committee, Chaired the Kansas Division of USA Fencing and taught aspiring sabre coaches through USA Fencing’s Coaches College. 

Coinciding with Coach Williams’ appointment as Head Coach, the Kansas City Fencing Center was reorganized as a not-for-profit corporation, managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Today KCFC continues its tradition of excellence as one of the premiere fencing centers in the U.S.

Fencing is for everyone! At The Kansas City Fencing Center, our goal is to provide an enjoyable, high-quality fencing experience for our members. Our programs provide a safe, respectful, friendly atmosphere. From youngsters to senior adults, KCFC has a program designed to meet both recreational and competitive needs.
